I have been working at Ameriprise full-time for more than a year

Pros

Good benefits. Access to lots of training resources, HR is quick to deal with, and technology is very up to date. There are good measuring sticks and senior leaders are very helpful and great people.

Cons

Matrix management can be a little confusing and frustrating at times. As much as the senior leaders are great people, the number of them that you report to can be frustrating since not everyone's goals are always in line.

The company is trying to improve shareholder value by charging advisors increased fees and technology costs.

I have been working at Ameriprise full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Company has few restrictions on investment choices. Payouts seem better than most firms. Meetings and travel are held to a minimum. Field supervision is not repressive and has improved. Improving technology, but charging for most types of back room assistance.

    Cons

Saddled with non-responsive, ineffective, uneducated field supervision initially...has been replaced, Initial training was non-existent, CEO only cares about company stock performance (Bonus tied to this no doubt).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop using your franchisees as a cash cow, senior management needs to be more in touch with sales force.Provide early training for EAR advisors.

I worked at Ameriprise full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people are generally Minnesota Nice.

    Cons

    - This company is a business cycle behind, and out of touch with the financial services environment as a whole.
    - Too many "home grown" staff who don't understand how much they really don't know.
    - Run by a clique- the pretty girl from high school in full force. You'll never be promoted unless you play the back stabbing political BS. Single, straight males need not apply.
    - All the managers are "leaders". Statistically, this is an impossibility resulting in a complete joke.
    - Corporate slogans and BS everywhere on the walls. How about you spend some time fixing the problems instead of pushing the branding down everyone's throat?
    - Management and decision by committee. No accountability what so ever, unless they want to get rid of you of course.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Stop the joke that is RiverSource product, it's a rip off to the clients who can get way more for cheaper elsewhere.
    - $46 Million for the CEO. Are you kidding me? When one of this year's goals was to create an environment of accountability?? Thanks for admitting that no one here will take any responsibility for anything.
