I worked at Amgen as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

Benefits, the AMgym, lax culture, decent work / life balance, great southern California weather, decent pay but not great

Cons

Very silo-ed company, lots of bureaucracy, legal controls marketing, Thousand Oaks is far from LA, traffic can be bad at times

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create the collaborative culture that you once had

    Pros

    Great mobility within the company
    Excellent benefits
    Recognition for going above and beyond
    Good interactions with upper management
    Great development of staff

    Cons

    Quick to outsource groups without looking at individual contributors
    Too much focus on Lean and fast cost savings
    Executive leadership depends too heavily on GSS to make decisions on outsourcing work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Look at the employees you are actually letting go to see if they might have some value to the company
    Have a contingency plan for outsourcing
