I worked at Amgen full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Good work/life balance, haven't seen a company with better benefits, onsite gym and daycare. If you know the right people, fairly easy to move around the company.

Cons

Promotions seem to be based more on who you know than your accomplishments, although that's not uncommon elsewhere. Culture has shifted to cost cutting a few years back.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on creativity and making employees happy, and not so focused on juicing the stock price - although I don't mind stock price going up.

I worked at Amgen full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Benefits, 401K, and easy job. This is a good and bad thing. If you are content in where you are. This is the place to be.

    Cons

no room for movement at all. Must play the politics game and be good at it cuz there are people that can outwit you. HR services are for managers only and no internal movement process in place. Stuck forever unless you leave. Also, the more cuts they do, the worse it gets for you. 6 days a week working, calling all hours of the night, this leads to no time with family/marriage life or in regard to your health.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Meet your lower level people and don't form opinions based on hearsay. Also, this type of interactions will show you, who is capable to give you brilliant OpEx ideas. Also, people know when you are speaking around the issue for questions that are difficult to answer at All Staff meetings.

I have been working at Amgen full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Amgen is a great place to work. The people are what makes it great. Eveyone is willing to go above and beyond what is required of them to get the job done. Amgen also has outstanding benefits.

    Cons

Amgen seems to have an large amount of VPs for a company it's size. But not many job growth opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that the employees are valued and provide more opportunities for career growth. It's very disheartening for emplyees to be told that their are no jobs available however it seems like a new VP is hired or promoted weekly.
