I worked at Amherst College part-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Amherst College is a great place for students to balance a study-work life that includes up to 15 hours a week of campus work in different facilities (library, physical plant, gym, safe ride, etc.). Also, because of college policy students come first, so student employees in financial need were able to keep their jobs during the recession even as some of the college's Staff positions were being compromised. Most supervisors will also bend over backwards to accommodate student's exam schedules - a lot of reshuffling takes place towards the end of every semester.

Cons

The specific job's merits depend on the facility supervisor, which is why for example my experience at the Library was less than pleasant. Senior management was somewhat aggressive when I would call in a sick day. However, this is rather the exception than the rule.

    Pros

Everyone is nice. Great work opportunities for their students, esp. on work study. The people at the library were really great about trusting you to do your job + understanding about sick days (with enough notice).

    Cons

No real cons. As a student worker, what more could you expect?

    Pros

One of the best liberal arts colleges in the US, great research opportunities, member of the five college consortium, excellent alumni network

    Cons

Relatively small college community, because of its secluded location not a lot of cultural life off campus
