I have been working at Amica Mutual

    Pros

Solid company with excellent reputation and training. Advancement was fair and quick. Benefits were beyond what any other company offered. Very fair when changes were made to any benefits.

    Cons

Very conservative and expect employees to tow the line in every way. Dress code was way too strict. Due to the nature of the business flexibility was not really allowed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be fiscally conservative while having innovations in other ways.

I have been working at Amica Mutual

    Pros

Amica has a good health care plan.
Amica does reach out to the community
Amica employee's do care about the customers and look out for each other,
A good place for baby boomers and the silent generation to work.

    Cons

There is no career path at the local level. You will need to move to a different state or home office in RI if you plan to move up. No benefit is offered to assist you with moving if you can even find an opening elsewhere. The managers are not trained well and lack people skills. Amica also invest little in technology. Agents are will doing many tasks manually such as issuing policies.
Time off is a point of contingency for many. Employees are written up regularly for exceeding sick time (average 40 hours a year) even if that employee clearly has that time available. Amica is very "old school" with regard to policy and procedures. I would not recommend Generation X or Y will find it a very stifling place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

On the local level if would held to send the account managers though management training on a regular bases. It appears that can handle process but have no people skill. The employee survey in my opinion is bogus because the statements are not clear. For example I love working for AMICA. Are you kidding? That was very poorly worded and no one is sure what was the purpose.
If you people to make a career you must provide a clear career path.
