I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If you do your job and work hard you can move up in the company in a timely manner and a lot of opportunities are virtual.

    Cons

As in any large company, sometimes things take longer to get done with approvals. Bonus payouts are a few months after the new year, not a big deal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communicate with your employees.

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Good for new graduates who are looking for an entry into the job market or those who are only concerned about a stable job with steady income.
    - Interview process is very relaxed and easy going.
    - Excellent benefits (health care, dental, vision & pension)
    - Healthy work life balance. Flexible work options including working 100% virtually.
    - Decent number of vacation days including sick time and personal time off.
    - Bonus plan for senior employees.
    - Being a big name an experience here adds lot of value to your resume unless you're in IT.
    - Occasional cash incentives for good performers.
    - Corporate discount for mobile phone plans (US only), gyms, and some software (MS Office).
    - Free AON T-shirt (Manchester United)

    Cons

    - Very stingy with pay, which is much lower than other companies/competitors.
    - Pay growth rate is flat, usually increasing by less than 2% per year.
    - Career prospects are very poor, especially for IT specialists. Opportunities for growth are either non-existent or very inconsistent among different business segments. You could be stuck in the same role for nearly a decade in some cases.
    - Lack of employee engagement.
    - Completing projects on time and ensuring that clients are happy is the only priority, often resulting in employee burnout.
    - Work can get mundane and monotonous as there are no new challenges or learning opportunities. Learning is limited to AON Hewitt specific business processes or in-house software.
    - Very inefficient project management practices. Often there is a disconnect between the client liaison team and the IT team that results in unreasonable promises made to the client, which IT is expected to deliver.
    - Seems like there is no vision or planning involved in hiring new employees. If more work can be delivered using fewer employees, then the better, as it is cost effective for the company at the expense of existing employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Focus on retaining employees rather than winning new clients or projects.
    - Provide competitive pay to employees so that they are well motivated.
    - Invest in your own employees by offering relevant training and career growth opportunities.
    - Invest in new software and systems instead of relying on outdated in-house tools.
    - When off-shoring work to India make sure that only good candidates are hired and also train them well so that they can operate efficiently in a global business environment.
    - Invest time and money in hiring new employees instead of expecting existing employees to handle multiple roles. For e.g. A Systems analyst can't be expected to do project management work! Hire a dedicated project manager instead!!
