Former Contractor - Customer Service Representative in Lincolnshire, IL

I worked at Aon as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

You have people that will help you adjust and learn the position better, it does provide a great resume and work experience in a different view of customer service. Also the pay was good.

Cons

Distance and travel time is horrible weather you drive or on public transportation its awful. Temporary position is said to be treated like a permanent employee that's not the case; you have no sick days, holidays are scheduled off without pay at the last minute its a very large company so communication comes in waves. Training is not uniformed founded it difficult to honestly get a feel for the company and co-workers if you didn't train with your co-workers you wouldn't know the people around you.

Advice to Management

Training needs to be uniformed, company for the most part feels divided.

    Pros

I worked for Aon in IT for over 7 years and enjoyed the people I worked with and FOR during that time. Aon is full of committed people, some politics of course - always there, but for the most part individually they are great.

    Cons

Everything else was a problem. In IT there was no commitment from management and was viewed as a horrible expense, and everything in Aon is AN EXPENSE to be minimized for shareholder value. That is the big problem. They may advertise great websites, but internally it is a horror show. CSC was brought in to fix everything in 2005, made it worse.

    Advice to Management

Engage your employees, shift away from shareholder value to client based value and value your IT infrastructure and IT staff. Cut CSC and others out of the picture and bring IT back in-house.
