Pros

It's one of the few places where you have the chance to change the world of technology, and work with some of the smartest people in the world. Anyone's pet project can wind up shipping to millions of Macs and iPhones - but you have to be great at what you do, and really be passionate about it.

Cons

Secrecy is the cult tool of management. While secrecy is beneficial during development, and helps make a big splash on introduction of a product - the paranoia still runs deep after the product has shipped. The default answer to any question is "say nothing publicly", and this philosophy is driven out of fear, even for purely technical discussions.

Advice to Management

Focus secrecy where it matters, and let people who work on non-secret projects work in the open with developers. Your employees aren't stupid, and know how to not pre-announce products. Also, recent deals with phone and record companies are corrupting our soul, and are antithetical to serving our customer's needs first.

    Pros

An upbeat work environment, complete with superb benefits for full-time employees, as well as significant purchase discounts and a great discounted stock-purchase plan. In addition, Apple offers its employees access to discounted purchases with its channel partners, as well as incentives for programs like employee wellness & fitness, mass-transit and carpool transportation.

    Cons

Limited mobility within the retail structure. Pay rates for certain positions (specifically in the technical support field) can be significantly lower than those with equal qualifications. The retail architecture can at times feel strained and can work to distance employees feelings of belonging to the company as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Greater attentiveness to the needs of employees, and a focus on internal satisfaction can strongly improve overall morale and behavior.

    Pros

The company knows the type of people they want to work there and they actively search for them until they get them. They are a well rounded company that focuses on the customers' wants and needs. I love the product and love the people that I work with because they are equally in love with the product. They are always the most coveted product and far more advanced than other companies in design and technology. It is a fun and safe environment to be a part of and everyone makes you feel as if you are a part of something bigger.

    Cons

The downsides of working for such a family oriented company is that everyone is in an intricate relationship with one another. It is like being in high school all over again complete with cliques: the popular kids and the nerds. Since it is such a relaxed environment where your personality is a huge part of your "uniform", there are people who clash with each other and others who take advantage of the lax environment and do not do any work. There are times when I do feel under appreciated for the work that I accomplish because it isn't a place to get reviewed and promoted too often.

    Advice to Management

I would have to advise the management team to communicate with each other and remain consistent on the things that they are telling their employees. There are times when it is like a "parent situation" where you go to one manager and they say go talk to the other and vice versa. Or you get advice from one manager, follow through with it and then get reprimanded for those same actions by another manager. Being told to sit down and walk at the same time.
