I have been working at Apple

Pros

Good pay, laid back environment and decent benefits. Managers are happy and treat employees with respect. Time off for family emergencies are worked into your sick time and there is actual sick time pay.

Cons

Schedules suck, there isn't a lot of flexibility in schedules. Some of the departments use different tools than other departments and it can be frustrating when trying to assist each other.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on the tools we use, we need to all use the same systems and the policies need to be communicated to everyone at the same time.

    I worked at Apple

    Pros

Simply put it's a very relaxed company to work with, while there are also fantastic advancement opportunities. Due to the two divisions, corporate and retail it makes it so there is quite a bit of advancement opportunities, if you can make the networking connections.

    Cons

If you don't work hard, you are unable to advance. The biggest issue is you have to wait for a new store to open in order to fully advance or for a stores popularity to pick up in order to allow the opening for a Creative or Genius position to open. The other issue is the transfer from Retail to corporate can be a bit more difficult since there isn't as close of a relationship between the retail and corporate divisions.

I have been working at Apple

    Pros

The company is charged and on a roll. Products are exciting and the recognition is good for the ego. If you want to get to the heart of all things Apple, you need to work there. Few outside experts exist. The facilities are top notch, the food great (and subsidized) and the general culture makes day-to-day interactions easy. The benefits package offers the best healthcare (United), a 401k match, stock options plan, health club, and an extensive discount-sharing program with third party vendors.

    Cons

Too much work for engineering teams. Most Directors/VPs want to hire more engineers, but they fail to hire enough QA to support them. QA is strained to the hilt throughout, especially in Mac Engineering, iPod and iPhone. Though management promises to do better, projects generally end up demanding weekend after weekend of commitment, or risk being labeled "not a team player." Most entry-level QA positions pay below the market average, and demand more time. In the end, Steve Jobs stands up at a comm meeting and offers a round of applause for everyone's families, but no profit sharing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-evaluate the distribution of head count, and push more folks into to QA to continue to support the industry-leading quality customers expect. Recent quality failures like me.com and it's services, and rapid-response updates for iPhone clearly illustrate the need for more people to get the quality up to a higher standard.
