    Lost its former glory

I worked at Applied Materials full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Ability to learn some technology for young people, if they are able to do so on the fly, since nobody bothers to train you.

    Cons

Lost its technological edge, for the simple reason that the best people either left or were laid off, not being politicians. The company is trying to survive by acquiring others and then destroying their culture and spirit. AMAT lost billions of dollars in failed acquisitions. There is no accountability at high management levels, particularly Director and up. Most of them make empty promises to customers with the full knowledge that in a year or so they would have moved on to another position and they won't have to fulfill their promises. Even if they stay in the job longer, they have no problem finding a scape goat at a lower level. The few real professionals that are left are scared out of their minds of being "black-listed" for the next lay-off which is always just weeks away. So everybody just tries to watch their own back while stabbing the others', since this is the only way to keep your job or move ahead. There is no cooperation or honesty. To add insult to injury, the company keeps reminding employees of the company hypocritical "principles".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs a serious makeover. The current management is too arrogant to listen to advice anyway despite their obvious failures. Is anybody looking at the stock performance?
