I have been working at Applied Minds

Pros

Leader in innovation, best and brightest group of people. Senior management legendary in achievements. Plenty of latitude given to be creative. Fast paced.

Cons

Long hours, impossible schedules but ultimately gratifying. Truly a challenge so if you are looking for a place to relax and ponder, this is not the place for you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back office needs to be in better lockstep with operations and project management. Overall it works, but only with effort.

Exciting and engaging place to work, though often chaotic and with few opportunities for career growth

    I worked at Applied Minds

    Pros

Lots of interesting projects, this is a unique and fascinating workplace. Some very smart people work there. Your mileage may vary depending on what project you work on and who you work under, though.

    Cons

Little room for career growth. Most people are contractors and thus second class citizens and it takes a couple years to get to employee for most people; most people never get there, though, and pass through on this or that project. Once you make employee you work on one project after the next without much opportunity to move into a technical management position. The work is so interesting and fast paced that this can be ok for many people, though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more to promote staff development. Formalize the process by which people can help initiative spin-offs based on successful inventions. Provide support for employees to attend conferences and present at conferences.

    I worked at Applied Minds

    Pros

Cool products. Has many potential in product and service line expansion.

    Cons

No structure , processes and focus on people. Frugal company, always looking to cut costs and the detriment of your employee's well being.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You got to spend money to make money. Short term gains in cutting costs and being cheap in your people initiatives will lead to retention issues in the long run. Management by fear will not work, remove the top layer and free your people from this treatment!
