I have been working at Arbitron

Pros

Benefits are solid and numerous, hours for some positions are flexible, in general don't expect people to work weekends, respected stature in media industry, gold standard in radio audience measurement, some excellent technologies, smart people

Cons

poor pay for experience and demands
inferior personnel review process
no 360 review process to weed out or demote poor managers
too much CYA attitude
moves very slowly on new initiatives

Advice to ManagementAdvice

walk around and talk with people other than your direct reports
encourage open communications, not ass covering
encourage entrepreneurial behavior
insist on teamwork, not empire building
listen to the customers, but pay attention to the marketplace
invest more in the future

    I worked at Arbitron

    Pros

    Work from home.
    Very interesting industry.

    Cons

Radio centric, so they delivery radio data to the radio industry. However, they do have an agency product and Scarborough.
Co-workers are out to win at the cost of other co-workers. At any given time they will throw you under the bus.
Slow to progress with the times. Arbitron missed the boat.
    Middle management heavy.
CEO announces no changes to be made then lays off many people at the end of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it's too late. The internet has changed the way radio is listened to and you've been left behind.

I have been working at Arbitron

    Pros

Good salary and benefits, great technology.

    Cons

New products and services that produce disorganization, not a good place to work if you are looking for advancement, gossip, management feels superior and don't give the needed support for success.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire management with experience and expertise in the areas they will work and who have a track record of leading teams to success.
