Argos are an excellent employer. Fair to their staff & make things happen. My time there was hard work but enjoyable.

I worked at Argos full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Fantastic IT systems means ease and accuracy of report data available.
Good at sharing what's happening throughout the business and downloading from Senior Management.
    Highly positive and friendly culture.
Fair to their staff and suppliers. Will always aim to promote from within before externally.
Good opportunities to move between departments and within the HRG group to/from Homebase.
Excellent working environment - beautiful, light, modern offices with great restaurant.

    Cons

Often expect too much from their staff - hours can be very long (including weekends at certain periods). In Merchandise, all team members have to be in work for 7am to prepare reports for Monday's Trading Meeting.
Their current lacklustre trading performance is of concern although i feel confident they have the right leadership and strategy in place to turn it around.
Pension scheme not now offered to new starters

I have been working at Argos part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are opportunities to advance to management internally, there is a lot of flexibility in hours and most times can be work to accommodate you as far as there is prior notice.
There is also different roles to fit different personalities and also to gain experience in different sections of the store.

    Cons

management need to find more creative ways to motivate staff and also to hear what the staff may feel is missing from the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

management need to find creative ways to motivate their staff
they should also talk to their staff more often to find out what they think is missing from the store
help staff and give them more ways to move up in store rather get stuck in the same position and no time to advance through steps.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
