If you're over 40, this might be a good place to work; otherwise don't bother.

I have been working at Arizona Public Service Company

    Pros

    Good benefits & time off
The aging workforce should create job openings growth and opportunities to promote change over the next decade

    Cons

Political work environment - If you want to get anywhere, you need to kiss up. (This may not be quite so true in all departments, but overall sycophancy is strongly encouraged.)
Siloed - Business units do a very poor job collaborating.
Bureacratic - Orders come from the top down. Leaders ignore their employees. Do what you're told, not what you think is actually best for the company. Seniority outweighs merit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're trying to recruit a new generation of APS employees, empower them and build a culture that meets their needs and tastes. Instead, leadership is focused on establishing a corporate dress code.

Supposedly the company offers great benefits, but the centerpiece is a pension plan that is 30% underwater as of 12/31/2011. The health benefits are good for older employees with high health expenses, but a healthy young employee needs to pay a $1,000 annual deductible before receiving any benefit. And the supposed education/career development reimbursement is really reserved for managers and senior professionals.
