I have been working at Arizona State University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -State benefits.
    -Camaraderie among patrol units.

    Cons

    -Low starting pay.
-No performance based or cost of living raises.
-No shift or specialty differential pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start paying your people what they are worth by addressing the cons above and not just giving raises to the good ole boys club members. When you are told by other dept. members about your people breaking the law that they are supposed to enforce, breaking policy, making the department look bad, actually investigate it and do something about it.

I have been working at Arizona State University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, intelligent coworkers, intellectual freedom, self-governance. A strong community of individuals who are in their business in order to make a difference. Constant opportunities to learn and grow.

    Cons

Rare, if ever, pay raises. Politics within a university structure are strong, and issues with tenured professors and long-time staff run deep; people get stuck in ruts, and defend them until the end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current policies to limit salary increases for internal candidates for higher-level positions are going to contribute to a major brain-drain.
