I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, new management team seems earnest in attempts to solicit and act upon employee engagement survey results. Very transparent strategic plans with credible growth story. Strong ethics culture and amazing commitment to safety.

    Cons

Rough economy has driven hard choices and waves layoffs, but returning $1.3B to shareholders during the same time frame seems out of balance. Publically traded company with majority ownership tied to private equity seems to be driving short-term thinking and over emphasizing shareholder returns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strive to balance the needs of stakeholders. Reasonable people can understand tough choices in difficult economy. Really hard to understand and support special dividends to TPG during the same time frame.
