I have been working at Army and Air Force Exchange full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Good pension plan if you stick it out 'till the end. Opportunities to travel all across the world. Very high job security. Annual pay raise tied to your performance. Vacation and sick leave accrual are good. New CEO/Director is cleaning house which is a good thing.

Cons

Salary is relatively low. No 401(k) matching & pension is only for Management. Leadership is stale and more interested in the status quo than change/growth. Need to know people to get promoted.

Advice to Management

Look first internally to fill vacancies. Consider having a formal mentor program in the field.

I have been working at Army and Air Force Exchange full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are freaking awesome! We have Aetna health insurance, which is some of the best out there. Co-Pay is $20 and Specialists co-pay is only $35. AAFES still has a pension plan as of now and it only takes 5 years to be vested in the company.

    Cons

No 401K matching what so ever. Someone has to die or retire for you to move up the ranks! If you are an administrative assistant (or Secretary as they still call us) the only advancement you can look forward to is up to Executive Assistant. The company is dated, they claim to be innovative but we still have furniture from the 1970s at Headquarters. Everything is OLD SCHOOL. Not the place you want to work if you are looking for growth or modern business practices.

    Advice to Management

Start listening to what the younger employees have to offer. Don't just trust that someone who has been with the company 20+ years automatically knows what they are talking about!

    Cons

Management are not always on the same page; no benefits unless you are in a full time or management position.
