I worked at Ashland full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Some of the greatest people you could work with, enjoyed going to work everyday. The plant was doing a lot of work which kept me busy working on a wide variety of projects. My boss and mentor were both brilliant people, always taught me something new.

Cons

Management seemed to be unconcerned with lower level employees/operators

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start to show more empathy with lower level employees to retain employment. You have great workers in the facility, just show them that you see that.

    Pros

The people are nice and friendly, pay is good for the area, and it's a big name for your resume.

    Cons

Unfortunately if you have a disgruntled supervisor he/she will make your life miserable. Most of the time I got depressed before going to work simply because I knew I would have to see my boss. Most of the others in my department felt the same way, however, so we bonded over our misery.

I once asked my supervisor why the company wasn't more diverse (I was 1 of 4 minorities on the entire floor) and was told that Ashland was diverse: "we hire those from eastern, western, southern and northern Kentucky."

    Pros

    Not a lot of overtime
    Global teams and experience
    Gym and cafeteria onsite

    Cons

Very little change management geared toward people - most focused on systems
No structured learning plans or career pathways
Lack of flexibility in work schedule

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take as much of an interest in your employees and their development as you do in the bottom line and in your business development.
