I have been working at AstraZeneca

Pros

Terrific colleagues who are very highly motivated and intelligent. Place has a buzz like a small company and the resources of a large pharmaceutical company. Good work life balance and assistance with childcare. Amazing facilities, labs, office space and cafeteria.

Cons

Senior management fails to recognize strong scientific contributions - favors project managers. Many poor decisions from senior management. Aggressive personalities are recognized and rewarded rather than those who make the most meaningful contributions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the scientists and not just those interested in climbing the career ladder

    Pros

The benefits and salary are the best part of the package.

    Cons

The managers can make or break your job. If they don't like you it doesn't matter how good your are and how well your territory is doing, you are still going to be treated like dirt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to take a look at the representatives abilities and relationships in the field. Some reps know how to play the management game and they are the ones that are often perceived as being the super reps while the reps who are honestly out doing their job like they are suppose to are the ones that end up getting laid off in the end. The managers are the ones that got fooled in the end.

Great products, but national sales strategy falls short.

    I worked at AstraZeneca

    Pros

Great benefits, great products, good training, good first level managers on average. good 401K benefits, nationally recognized products, good service to medical community.

    Cons

Poor middle management on average, current sales strategy that is unwelcomed by medical professionals, poor HR follow up and communication. This organization talks like it has the best for its employees in mind, but that is only really seen on a high level basis, not regionally or locally. It is very common for DSMs to have 70-80hr work weeks 60-80% of the time and it is supported by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Corporate management needs to have better understanding of the unique challenges that are present in different regions instead of creating a market plan that is one sie fit all.
    2) Corporate management should follow up to see how marketing plans are being implemented on a Regional and District basis to see how the interpretations are different from the National plan.
    3) Corporate management should look for ways to stay up on computer technology for their sales force.
    4) Corporate should review sales strategies and allow sales people deliver product info how their customers want to hear, not forced messaging. Let sales people sell.
