I have been working at Athleta part-time

Pros

Great work environment of positive and fun people. Everyone loves Athleta clothing! Commonly hear from customer's "I need to get out of here. Everything is sooo cute. I want it all." Return policy - Return it at anytime for any reason. Can't beat that! The discount is very generous and applies to Athleta and other Gap stores. Customer service is top notch as well. Very friendly and catered to helping the customer. Management is very experienced and hard working. No slackers at all!

Cons

Athleta clothing is very expensive. Return policy for employees is return within 30 days and must have the tag attached. In other words you can't wear, wash and return unless it's defective in some way. Having a different schedule every week can be stressful when you have other commitments. Turnover is moderate. Have made a ton of friends but majority have left for other jobs, move, going back to school etc.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try a set schedule for your top notch loyal employees. Give the same Return policy to your employees. They work very hard to service the customer.

I have been working at Athleta part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed, fun, uplifting, and motivating workplace overall. Amazing management staff.

    Cons

The company caters to an older crowd. Being in my twenties, I don't feel as though I relate to the clientele as much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Store managers: Keep up the good work! Very understanding. Promote a wonderful and fun environment. Corporate: maybe be more aggressive in tapping into the younger demographic with fits, colors, and marketing tools.

Why call it a lifestyle brand when the people who work there RARELY workout and are stressed-out all the time?

I worked at Athleta full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good cross-brand discount, online site and facebook page shows REAL culture of brand, most of the clothing is awesome!

    Cons

Depending on the store, the teams can either be amazing or awful. The culture is NOT translated at the store level. There is way too much busy-work to be done that is directed from corporate. The corporate visits are a mess and the managers act like everything is going great, when in fact they treat their employees and even fellow-managers like crap. It makes no sense why the company is expanding so quickly - they are losing the culture and the managers that are suppose to represent and set the tone for the brand don't even like to work out - or they are so over-worked that they have no time to work out. There are a lot of management teams that don't fit the brand and they hire people just to have warm bodies on the sales floor. The corporate hiring team does an awful job of picking GMs - so many of them are a horrible fit for the stores and their teams. The company doesn't seem to care about what the brand truly stands for - it just needs to make money and the heck with true connections with customers or each other. A lot of REALLY great people have been leaving the brand and no one seems to talk about it. It's not the same anymore...it's become just another retail store...they had a chance to make it, but they are failing! I'd rather shop at Lululemon - at least you know that they are snobby before walking in, with Athleta, you think they are nice and then they talk about customers or employees after they walk away. There is nothing "genuine" about that accept that it shows the immaturity of those that are hired to represent the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get over yourselves! Put the brand and your employees first! Recognize that you may not know everything about being a good manager, but at least be willing to learn how to be a better person. The corporate office is totally disconnected from the stores and the managers never stand up to them or help them to see that their workloads are growing and their team morals are dwindling.
