A great place for people just starting out their career. Not a great place to go later on in your career.

Pros

This company has a ton of smart engineers. You will learn a ton of things at this company. Atrion is a great place to start a career, as they have a fantastic talent development program. Telecommuting is allowed per manager's discretion.

Cons

The benefits at Atrion are not very good. Salary is average for the industry. Bonus plans constantly change are bonus goals are unachievable. Medical/Dental benefits are costly. Unless you are able to negotiate, it takes 5 years to get a 3rd week of vacation. A positive work life balance is difficult to achieve, as the culture that is pushed down from management is work as hard as possible, as much as possible. Management does not openly share information with lower levels, and puts a layer of middle management below them to introduce/enforce policy with out fully empowering them.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Growing your own talent is great. But if you want to attract experienced talent from outside the organization, you need to improve your benefits and allow the outside experiences of others to influence the company.

I have been working at Atrion Networking full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Atrion is basically a phenomenal organization that has experienced significant growth and expansion. The employees and customers of Atrion are top-notch. If you are looking for an 8-5 job and to collect a pay check, look elsewhere. If you have a passion for technology, a desire to learn, and the drive to go above and beyond, this is the place. While the hours can be long, everyone has fun, works well together as a team, and has a passion to deliver an excellent customer experience. It is not all just work - there are a lot of good after-hours events, too.

    Cons

    1) Frequent changes to compensation plans, often with lack of clarity. Introduction of new plans is always with very short notice between seeing the "new plan" and what it entails, and the effective date.

    2) Need to promote from within wherever possible. Many new hires have been brought in to senior roles lately, and they very often don't last long. The "grow from within" approach used with the apprentice program has been a huge success and should probably be extended up the rungs of the ladder wherever possible

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focused on core values and don't forget about all of the long-term employees who have worked themselves at a frantic pace to make this company the great company it is.

    Pros

Atrion has been a family to me since I've joined them many years ago. The people are top notch and are always willing to jump in to help fellow employees and clients. You will be hard pressed to find a better group of collaborative engineers and management than Atrion.
    Summary:
    Great People
    Career Growth potential
    A beautiful new corporate headquarters
    Work flexibility
    Competitive salary
    Great Leadership
    Great Values

    Cons

Atrion has been going through some growing pains, but the good thing is leadership is keen to the challenges and works hard to get in front of issues before they become roadblocks to that growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be aware of the pulse of employees and their general happiness. Welcome feedback openly and more often.
