I worked at Attachmate

Pros

Every member in the entire company has complete vision of all aspects of the business. The products and services provided to the customers are of the best in the emulation and integration software industry. Attachmate champions the highest ethics in every facet of their business, both internally and externally. The physical working environment is excellent.

Cons

Seattle is not the most expensive are to live in, but it is not cheap, so do press for a good salary going in.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

On the products side, Attachmate is doing above average at keeping the software well integrated into the constantly evolving desktop environment it runs on, so continue with that.

    I worked at Attachmate

    Pros

The benefits were competitive, especially in light of the size of the company, the magnitude of the economic downturn, and the requirement to maintain the owners' return on their investment. In spite of the rolling rounds of layoffs, there are still a few very competent employees.

    Cons

Executives (and to some extent the leadership team) are prisoners of long-outdated management principles: outsource as much as possible, eliminate employee ownership, divide and control. The company is in constant crisis-management mode. There is no long-term vision and therefore no real planning. Whatever ad hoc planning there might be, is promptly thrown out to deal with the next crisis, which is often precipitated by the lack of a coherent long-term vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's pointless to offer advice or feedback to the leadership at Attachmate, as it is part of the venture capital ownership structure (Francisco Partners, Golden Gate Capital, Thoma Cressey Equity Partners) and were put in place to manage down and milk the company; employee feedback is irrelevant.
