I have been working at Attensity

    Pros

Attensity has great technology and very smart people working to solve tough technical problems. The environment is fun and fast-paced, it feels like a startup! The depth of the technology at Attensity is incredible (social media, text analytics, columnar DB, callcenter, portals, foreign language support, etc..).

    Cons

Not much downside, but you definitely can put in some long hours. Seems like there is no shortage of work!

The Journey Up Mount Everest Isn't Easy, But It's Worth It

I have been working at Attensity

    Pros

Attensity is working on some very hard technical challenges in a "hot" space that is revolutionizing the way companies use information.

You have a lot of autonomy here to think for yourself and many ideas that make it into the product come out of engineering. Attensity also provides the ability for employees to leverage their strengths, altering their positions or switching positions to ensure everyone is doing what they want to do and what they are best at.

You also get the chance to work with bright people across the globe to solve problems, which is unusual in a company of this (smaller) size. I like to think of it as "Silicon Valley engineering with German quality".

The customer base is steadily growing, and you're involved in a lot of interesting projects.

Most importantly, it's "worthy work" we're doing here - not just trying to make a buck.

    Cons

Like a journey up Mount Everest, this company has had its ups, downs, and detours. To succeed here, you need to be able to roll with the punches and be comfortable with some degree of ambiguity. Everyone is now aligned on where the top of the mountain is - the ultimate goal - but the path up is subject to change based on weather conditions.

If you don't understand something, you need to ask; it's not fed to you.

It can be challenging working in distributed teams across countries and time zones - you have to learn to work with a lot of different personalities.

Finally, Attensity's not yet a household name, mainly because they sell to big enterprises only, so if you need to be able to go to cocktail parties and boast that you work for "hot company X", this might not be the place for you. (But if you like to go to cocktail parties and talk about the interesting things you're doing, this *is* the place for you)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay focused on the goals. Continue to strive for better communications. As we grow, make sure that when we hire people, we continue to hire people that are really passionate about the work to be done and have the stamina to make it all the way up the mountain.
