Pros

- Growing, profitable company with smart, driven people means a very healthy culture.
- Physical space (lots of natural light, open floor plan, etc.) contributes to that healthy culture.
- Genuine interest across the organization in new/better ideas.
- Relatively non-heirarchical
- Egos are rarely a part of the decision-making process. Very logic/data-driven.
- Free lunches, ping pong tables, etc. encourage interpersonal bonds.
- Free audio books

Cons

- Shades of not seeing the forest for the trees (although they know this, and want to change)
- Rapid growth means that there are some communication challenges (different corners of the org working on similar things)

    Pros

    - Good pay and benefits
    - Regular author visits and talks (great environment if you are a reader)
    - Opportunities for fun (beer Fridays, ping pong tables)
    - Part of Amazon so access to some awesome amazon tools
    - Great place for entry level people to get experience if they are hiring
    - Some of the best friends you will ever make

    Cons

    - Newark
    - CEO is a genius but is disengaged/engaged at the worst possible moments
    - Zero management coordination, project management, or operational excellence (it's like kids playing "office")
    - They think they're data driven, but they're not-- telling a good story is better than telling the truth
    - The dinosaurs at the top are more worried about their ego being bruised than in listening to the people they trusted enough to employ. As a result, the best talent leaves after a year.
    - Resistance to making smart, strategic moves; conversely, they rush to build boondoggle programs the CEO thought up while he was working from home for 3 months in the summer
    - Their Operational Plan (OP1) cycle is the retarded mutant stepchild of Amazon's actual, working, process, and it paralyzes the organization for about half of the year.

    Advice to Management

    Lead or retire.
