Former Employee – worked at Auto-Owners Insurance full-time for more than 7 years

Pros – Company has been around for almost 100 years with a very strong financial rating. Job security is very high, they don't do layoffs and rarely fire employees. If you work hard and are willing to move, they will give you the opportunity. They don't limit you to one specific line, so you have the ability to learn a lot. The Christmas and Incentive Bonus programs are fair and can be pretty substantial.

Cons – If you want to get promoted you to a higher position you probably will have to move (unless you are in Home Office). This is understandable as there are only so many positions in the branch office. While the benefits and bonuses are great, the pay is below average for the industry. Some complain about the business attire (shirt and tie for men), but it really isn't that bad.

Advice to Senior Management – Continue to promote younger, driven employees. Base raises on merit, allowing for higher percentages for those who earn it. While the security is great, it doesn't mean you can't get rid of the dead weight who are just there for a paycheck.
