AutoZone Parts Sales Manager in Indianapolis, IN:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Great for gaining expirience on automotive parts and developing customer service skills. You get to interact with customers and get personal satisfaction when you give advice and solutions.

Cons

Poor pay with minimal chances for career growth. They have zero training resources for career development thus you are stuck with whatever skills you get with expirience.

Advice to Senior Management

Make time to interact your employees, they goals, concerns and career goals. Some incentives for sale of related items rather than stupid stars would be appreciated,a gift card or something. If there is a bonus from sales everybody should get a piece of the pie.Stop shoving numbers at sales people and giving then stars in return.

After reading all the current comments I will say they all agree on the most basic and needed changes. At a bottom line analysis my opinion is that, taken as a whole, these are the reasons that unions are formed. If coporations acted in a more responsive manner to their employees then the formation of a union may not be needed. But they don't. They push and push until employees are pushed to the edge. It's a matter of self interest and self preservation on both sides. We are all human and humans have always acted in this manner through history. Basically, AutoZone mirrors other corporations in this. At an extreme, If AZ could repeal the child labor laws they would. Basically, working at this company feels like a throwback to 19th century labor - management issues Anything to benefit a small percentage of people at the expense of the larger percentage.
Unions have their downside also for an employee, but it is the lesser of two evils. I feel the only way to be listened to is to organize and fight back. I for one am fed up with this bean counting company and the use of its' people as a capital resource to be exploited on every level. I have much more to say but will blog further at a future time.
