    Former Employee - Program Manager

I worked at Autodesk full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, interesting products, decent work-life balance

    Cons

Management structure very hierarchical, Autodesk is ho-hum traditional when it comes to managing staff and careers. Too many people called "managers" who are not given the time and priority to do so, skills are sorely lacking. How about trying to innovate with company culture and management practices and not just in your products? Introduce position rotation - *no one* should be in the same role for > 10 years! Politics play too large a role here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reinvent not only your product portfolio but also how you function as a company and how you interact with and inspire employees

Former Contractor - Anonymous Contractor in Montreal, QC (Canada)

I worked at Autodesk as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    Supportive, collegial atmosphere.
The most amazing coffee ever (unless you work as a barista at Starbucks, perhaps)
Terrific cafeteria with cutlery, plates, bowls, cups, milk, chocolate milk, a variety of hot drinks (including a REAL espresso machine), dishwashers... and fruit and bagels supplied once a week.
A building that just feels so conducive to being productive. (Duke St in Montreal).
    The Bike to Work Challenge.
    Places to park bicycles indoors!
A lot of happy employees making for a pleasant atmosphere.

    Cons

Seems like they jump on bandwagons for things like cloud computing and social media when they might be missing out on something they're good at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful making cuts when you're profitable and you've just spent 10's of millions on some tiny social media doohickey.
