I worked at Autodesk

Pros

Outstanding products, great mission, great colleagues.

Has the potential to be a dream company.

Cons

Dissonance between stated and practiced values and mission that ripples though a team.

There are Sr. Managers and Directors that are contractors. I've seen negative effects from unintended consequences on FT Managers and Specialists who are their reports.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice on a team level, what your preach on a company level. Consider making it a policy that all Senior Managers and Directors are FTE.

Approves of CEO

I worked at Autodesk full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great products. Customers love the products. Lots of autonomy to take initiative for results. Constantly innovating to lead the industry.

    Cons

Management is spotty. Some very good managers, and some loose canons. Lots of focus on activities rather than results. There is usually a reorg every year, or even more frequently, so the job you hire into will not be the job you will be doing a year from now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training for new managers, and don't be afraid to get rid of the tyrants who do not respect their subordinates.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Autodesk as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Autodesk provides great resources to develop your professional and technical skills at your own pace through things like passes to online schools and hosting their own internal regular research conferences. They also have a positive professionall culture that encourages reaching out to other employees for anything from miscellaneous assistance to partnership on a larger project.

    Cons

Autodesk is composed of hundreds of smaller offices spaced around the world, so the lack of face to face interaction with your coworkers or boss could detract from your productivity.
