Autonomy Employee Review
Autonomy – “Would not recommend this place to work”

Autonomy has cutting edge technology, smart employees, good benefits packages, and nice offices worldwide. The company also has an impressive list of customers.
Cons
The most dysfunctional technology company I have ever worked for, and I've been in this industry for 15+ years. There is ZERO communication between upper management and the rest of the company. It is basically a customer service culture of "you are not important unless you are spending money with us this quarter" and customers do not matter unless they are buying something in the current quarter. All of the sales reps are internally competing with each other for deals within the same accounts/customers, and this causes many internal conflicts, which never get resolved and someone usually gets screwed unless you are a company "golden boy." The weekly SMS calls are absurd - basically a session of getting yelled at, questioned, and degraded by Sr. Management. Basically, the entire Monday is impossible to do anything due to being "on call" for the SMS call, and heaven forbid you have a meeting with a customer/prospect on that day - according to Autonomy that is not as important as the SMS call and they (management) fully expect you to excuse yourself from customer/prospect meetings to take the SMS call. Management LOVES to micromanage everyone and throw out threats constantly about employees being expendable. Management also loves to pressure sales reps into telling customers "YES" to everything - even though the software many not actually work in a certain way, the answer is always "YES." I feel bad for the customers who are getting lied to and in the end spend lots of $ and getting software that doesn't fully work as it is supposed to. Just a rotten culture from the top down.
Advice to Senior Management
You should really try to make an effort to listen to mid level management and other employees more often, maybe they will have a few good ideas every now and then.

Some members of Legal were being forced to call the sales reps again the day after the SMS call to ask if already thing have been changed since yesterday. I felt sorry for them as they were nice people.
I agree that the more meetings you are doing, the more revenue you can have. But there is always a limit.
The paranoia attitude of the upper management results in fraud in registering meetings or doing meetings which aren't relevant.
For example: sometimes I met former colleagues for a chat and it was accepted as a meeting. When I was visiting a larger company and I met some contacts for a minute when I walked through that company, I noted it as a meeting and it was accepted.
After 90 days, I uploaded old proposals to SMS again, which were count as a new proposal and I have never sent it to the customer. That's the stupid thing of the SMS calls.
Before the SMS calls I discussed with my direct manager what to say and what not say. We had our own strategy in order to stay out of the danger zone and made the upper management happy with nothing.
It is all a big fake. Very happy that I am not longer working for that fake and sick company.

Yesterday, a former colleague told me that this kind of meetings are being blocked in SMS.
That's funny. The Autonomy management is reading these reviews and comments carefully. Unfortunately not to learn how to treat their people better, but to tighten the handcuffs.
Be very careful if you are considering to join Autonomy!!!!!

To SE: Every company has some system like SMS - its just that Autonomys is strange. The participants on the management side of the call are abusive and use the call as an opportunity to belittle and intimidate the sales staff. The AEs dont join as a group because the same one-liners and jabs are used over and over again. Ive been invited to listen in on a few and I wouldn't tollerate my mom talking to me that way when I was 10 much less now that I'm grown.

However - meeting targets are set at 5 per week, regardless of your location, the travel time, whether you have existing clients with problems that need attending to... but 20% of your working week is 'unavailable' because you are waiting for an SMS call. That leaves 4 working days for appointments - which means you can never properly prepare for a meeting, and will spend the bulk of your time travelling at all hours. And since a few months ago, salespeople are subjected to a penalty system whereby if you do not make your meeting target, you will have hundreds of dollars/pounds deducted from your salary. As a result - lots of lying and 'gaming' the system which means management figures are complete fiction.
I've never been happier since I left - I have no idea how Autonomy have gotten away with it so far, but they have endorsed these practices for years. A tiny minority of employees are treated well, but the rest are treated with utter contempt.
