Pros

It's a paycheck. There's heat, light, and air-conditioning.

Cons

As a leveraged buyout company, management is very short sighted. There is no interest in growth or long term development. The only emphasis is putting lipstick on the pig, to inflate impressions of the place, to make it sell in an IPO.

Advice to Management

Communicate with the employees! Share at least as much information as you do with the SEC. Stop cursing in employee meetings.

    Pros

The best reason to work at Avago is to make money, meeting incredible good people, and learn how to be innovative to do your job with little or no budget.

    Cons

The downside is they internal business ethics are compromised, Senior Management doesn't believe in Marketing and Advertisement and it's capabilities. There is very limited budget for Marketing and Advertisement, they also don't put a lot of emphasis into the web site, which would be the most inexpensive way to communicate to potential customers, current customers and vendors.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employees, focus on fixing the foundation of the company and don't just focus on getting the company ready for going public. It would be important to pay attention to outside vendors and customers via blogs, open up communications and create deep rooted partnerships.

    Pros

Chip fabrication is a fairly easy job to hold. Every process has a relatively simple process of operations that can be mastered in a few days. The more complicated processes are not more difficult so much as increasingly tedious. Co-workers can be hit or miss but it's easy enough to tune out the rabble and just focus on the work. Pay is fair and overtime is built in to the schedule. The work environment is comfortable for the most part. The hours are long (12 hours shifts to keep the fab up 24 hours, 7 days a week), but you work in a block so you end up done with your "40" in only half a week.

    Cons

Management can be vague at times; the left hand doesn't always seem to know what the right is up to. None of the supervisors are particularly harsh or difficult to work with however. Show up on time and do your job efficiently and one won't recieve any hassle. The biggest con by far is the lack of job security as a contractor. Contracting doesn't usually come with much security, but the carrot seems to be dangled a superfluous distance away from you as a contractor for Avago. The contract is 6 months with an option to renew and/or hire the contractor on before the 12th month. This would seem promising if it weren't for a lack of definitive input as to your hiring prospects from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Be more clear with your contractors about their opportunity. Working on a contract is fine, one knows what they are signing up for, but slightly more concrete answers regarding job security would be nice.
