I have been working at Avascent

Pros

Work can be very interesting at times, opportunities for advancement, not too much travel, great group of coworkers, tons of social events.

Cons

Many projects are very similar and can become tedious, more travel would be nice as would exposure outside of the defense industry.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management could improve downward mgmt/communication skills, otherwise keep up the good work!

I have been working at Avascent full-time (more than 5 years)

    (Translated from English)

    Pros

    1. La reconnaissance, la satisfaction personnelle et les perspectives de carrières qui ne sont possibles que dans un environnement qui ne récompense seulement le travail honnête et sérieux (sans aucune discrimination ou « plafond de verre » que l’on trouv

    1. The recognition, personal satisfaction and future career prospects that are possible only in an environment that not merely rewards honest, hard work (with none of the discrimination or "glass ceilings" found in most other comparable organizations), but also encourages personal introspection, a willingness to learn from others (yes, they might be younger, have fewer degrees, or avoid dominating discussions...), and opportunities to overcome one's own fears (i.e. doing things outside one's comfort zone)

    2. Culture matters... and if there's one word that immediately comes to mind when thinking of Avascent is "culture". No organization is perfect or fault-free and there's often the risk of interpreting individual mistakes as symptoms of some broader institutional malaise. During my tenure at Avascent, I have seen the organisation changing in fairly drastic ways (in terms of size, staff composition, scope of offerings...) but at heart it's still the same company I got to know during these first impromptu Happy Hours !

    3. Avascent's unique expertise in often little-understood global government markets, where policy, business and technology intersect makes this a rare professional experience. And this is certainly not limited to students of international relations or military wonks (or geeks, for that matter - I hope, some of my male colleagues will forgive the remark...). Some of the smartest and most effective individuals I've worked with at Avascent came from unexpected backgrounds; what they all had in common were a fascination for the subject matter and a recognition of the above two points.

    Cons

Management consulting is not for everyone or for everyone in the long term. Any downsides that come from working at Avascent (such as long hours, having to deal with unexpected developments, etc.) are all tied to the nature of the particular work and the level of personal responsibility endowed upon all its employees - junior as well as senior. While the former is common among consultancies, the latter is certainly not.
