I have been working at Avascent

Pros

Work can be very interesting at times, opportunities for advancement, not too much travel, great group of coworkers, tons of social events.

Cons

Many projects are very similar and can become tedious, more travel would be nice as would exposure outside of the defense industry.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management could improve downward mgmt/communication skills, otherwise keep up the good work!

I have been working at Avascent full-time

    Pros

Senior Management - Extremely committed to the company and its employees.

Staff - A large group of very intelligent individuals from diverse backgrounds. A young staff overall with ~50-60% twenty-somethings.

Pay and Benefits - Second to none. Avascent is very generous with its employees.

The Job - Not at all monotonous. Can be very interesting. Constantly learning new things.

Opportunity - Lots of room for upward growth. Management encourages employees to be entrepreneurial.

    Cons

There are very few negatives about this firm. Generally, any headaches are directly tied to managing the ongoing growth. Avascent has consistently expanded its market share over the years, so there have been a few growing pains along the way; namely, long hours and some fits and starts with respect to strategy implementation. Neither is indicative of any red flags so long as one is not opposed to hard work and striving for high quality.

    I worked at Avascent full-time

    Pros

Avascent hires people who are self-motivated, engaging and sharp. The responsibility entry-level analysts are given is unparalleled in the industry, and the opportunity for career progression for high performers is outstanding. Avascent teaches its employees to think critically and fully about problems facing their clients, and then allows more junior members of the team to present their findings.

Beyond Avascent, the staff that decides to leave go on to impress top business schools and other graduate programs or employers. Additionally, the company fosters strong relationships between employees that last beyond their time at Avascent.

    Cons

The hours can be long, though careful planning and communication can curb how painful and/or unexpected they will be. The projects focus primarily on defense issues, so understanding that will be the bulk of the work before starting is key.

Additionally, Avascent has grown rapidly, sometimes at the expense of a clear long-term vision. The growing pains have included some fits and starts with training and hiring cycles. As it settles into its mid-sized status, it will develop ways to bridge its current gaps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With a cohesive long-term vision, Avascent's leadership can position itself to be a highly successful company.
