All in all, good benefits and work-life balance. Horrible management of the company and products.

I worked at Avaya full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

I liked most of the people I worked with, the flexibility of the work, and the salary and benefits. The work was fairly interesting and there were opportunities to pursue expanding your skill levels.

Cons

Because of the lack of good management of the company and product lines, Avaya has not remained competitive in the marketplace. They are flush with patents and the opportunity to do great research but have missed those opportunities in search of cash. They are run by a firm that is only concerned with cash and then selling the company for the cash and stripping it.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Some great projects to work on, lots of interesting technical challenges.
    Excellent salaries in general.
Lots of great people to work with, both technically and socially.
Management is working to stay a market leader in their core telecom specialties with
the purchase of Nortel and recently Radvision and trying to introduce new technologies when possible.

    Cons

Avaya has been constantly downsizing/rightsizing since they were spun off from Lucent.
Lots of outsourcing and off-shoring and that still continues through the end of 2012 when
    I was finally rightsized out.
Avaya has done very little hiring at all since it was born.
So the workforce is aging but, interestingly, still staying fairly up-to-date technically.
Some projects are so large that it's difficult to use newer technologies and methods.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working to introduce new technologies when possible.

    Pros

no real pros to this company. Seems to be heading to the same finanacial fate as its last major purchase of Nortel.

    Cons

Was put into positions that I was not trained for. Management assumed you were able to work with no training or limited training. High stress enough to cause a heart attack and memory loss causing me to leave the company. Had to sue to get disability review
