Pros

Avaya is a great place to get exposed to the business world - it has a huge customer based and a solid array of products - both software and hardware. Its a company in transformation and there is a lot to learn in the process.
Formidable leader in the Unified Communication space with lot of emphasis on research & technology.
Excellent work-life balance.

Cons

Lot of legacy software platforms (baggage) makes execution slow.
Too slow to move to the SaaS model - threatens its leadership position.
Thinly spread across the globe slows down execution. Meetings at 6am in the morning to accomodate various time-zones.
No stock options given.

Advice to Management

Make the Avaya brand "cool".
Get a clear vision to go after the SaaS opportunity and execute with speed.
End of Life legacy products and transition to next generation products quickly.

    Pros

good training, work where you want to, some interesting long time Avaya customers.

    Cons

Avaya manages their sales employees with reports and metrics over account strategy and planning. Management team members do not generate new growth oppts, bring value to the field. Poor linkage between SEs and sales. Salary is not in line with dynamic companies in related fields.

    Advice to Management

    To many levels of management.

  2. Broken - it's like working for the phone company

    Pros

Some people are actually trying to turn the company around

    Cons

People are mean to each other more often than I have ever seen in my 20+ year career in tech. Culture of legacy Avaya/Nortel is still alive and well -- like a cancer. There are some nice people that I've met but far too many that are petty and enjoy sniping at each other in emails, conference calls, etc. It is just the culture here and I think it mostly comes from the long-time employees here. Most of the company is outsourced and it always feels like they are preparing the company for a takeover (which they probably are).

    Advice to Management

sell the company and get rid of the Avaya/Nortel lifers.
