I worked at Avery Dennison

Pros

Coworkers are like family and understand same stressful environment.
3 weeks vacation after 2 years
Prior to 2009 could get Greenbelt or Blackbelt certified but not anymore
Medical benefits above average or say they say

Cons

Senior management is a revolving door and is clueless to what is happening at site level. No strategic direction or vision of what line of business company or division are focusing on for market share. Constant layoffs and fearful environment who is the next on the list. No support for continuing education or development. Degrees and formal education are not valued at the company. Why bother going to school and the tuition reimbursement program is a joke. Don't say you have a program if it is never in the budget or only the "chosen ones" are allowed to go to big time schools. Sick to stomach going to work everyday with the stress and constant complaining. Not the place to work for a Generation X or Millennium generation. Management does not value young opinions or promote teamwork.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out what is happening at the site level and get your act together on communicating the strategic direction. How many VPs and Directors does a company need to run? Seems like every site has to layoff to hire all the corporate folks who are clueless about the plant operations. Lead by example and doing not by saying what needs done. Values and Ethics are a joke from the top down.

    I worked at Avery Dennison

    Pros

Benefits are good and pay was favorable. Many employees have been with the company for 20+ years and there was a good 'family' feel at the company. Very relaxed environment, good communication between mid and lower level management and employees.

    Cons

Morale was low because of widespread layoffs, and it created a rumor mill and a paranoid environment. When positions were eliminated it seemed there was no consideration given to how the workload would be allocated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open and transparent in your communication with employees. Engage more with the communities you are a part of.

I have been working at Avery Dennison

    Pros

Lean Six Sigma training is very good. GOLD rotational program is a great place to start your career. Three weeks vacation after 2 years.

    Cons

Pay is average or below average. I would not take an entry level job unless it was part of the GOLD rotational program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Avery needs to innovate more!
