Pros

Exciting industry to work in with cutting edge technology. Lots of opportunity to retake the top place in the industry.

Cons

Mgmt has way overstayed their time. Initially they did a decent job restructuring, but then only hired new senior leadership without any real industry expertise. It is very sad to see how a once great company ended up in such terrible shape financially, morally and in any other negative way. Due to the inactiveness of the BOD, the BOD probably needs an overhaul as well. A perfect example of what corp. America should not look like!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that your time has passed. You don't have anything to add to the success and future of this company. You all have amazing 'golden parachutes' so don't worry about your time after Avid! Let a new more inspiring and capable team bring Avid to new heights.

I have been working at Avid Technology

    Pros

The salaries and other benefits are the best in the media industry.
Avid still has great products and solutions.
You have the chance to work with the best customers in the industry.
The people that get things done and know their job are a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

There is no long term technology nor business vision,
No real leadership with autonomy to change/improve things,
    Serious lack of trust,
Experienced people are set aside to make place for people with no market knowledge.
Middle Management layer is obsolete and unexperienced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage people that know the industry and have a vision of where Avid should be in 5 years from now.

I have been working at Avid Technology

    Pros

Talented, creative, dedicated workforce. Working offsite ok, sometimes preferred. Most of middle management cares. User base includes famous film directors and musicians. Product remains the standard. Product also has use in consumer market.

    Cons

Upper management preaches empowerment, then pulls the rug with layoffs (again and again). Too many broken promises or half-truths foster an atmosphere of mistrust and pessimism. Upper management doesn't seem to understand some of the product lines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a truly, empowered workforce and management team. Work towards solutions and success that do not require layoffs, or high levels of outsourcing. Let middle management (those who understand the product) speak for the product.
