Current Employee - Risk Manager in London, England (UK)
Current Employee - Risk Manager in London, England (UK)

Pros

- Great opportunities to move around the Group - Very honest and open feedback process - Some very smart people - Great plans within new structure

Cons

- Recently some politics emerging - Lack of willingness to make decisions - Very high reliance on contractors - high turnover rate due to pay issues in actuarial fields

Advice to Management

Keep talking to your people... stop the shift towards 'process' and 'sign-off'. People need to step up and take ownership for making decisions to move the company forwards. Rely on your own people over consultants

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    - Stable working environment. - There are opportunities in inter-teams/department transfers. - Above average compensation.

    Cons

    - Managers lack the skills to manage their employees. - Managers always over commit their resources resulting in frequent overtime or poor quality of projects. - Very poor dissemination of information from top management. - No emphasize is given to production support.

    Advice to Management

Managers should not always commit to a project when in the first place there are no or not enough resources. And more emphasize should be given to production support as there are constant problems with the systems.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Great work life balance. Treats staff with respect. High team spirit. Feels like one big, mostly happy, family. The senior leaders know what they are doing. They have been leading a huge financial services company in very difficult times. Speaks volume. Some superb technical people. Great SOA initiative in UK Life, though far too influenced by IBM.

    Cons

Many people too rigid in their own little views, understandable when they have been doing the exact same job at the same desk for the last 110 years! The less said about the middle managers the better. Completely clueless. IT in GI is still in chaos, probably always will be.

    Advice to Management

There are now more middle managers in Aviva than all desks, chairs, PCs and printers taken together. 'nuff said.
