Current Employee - Chemist  in  Suffern, NY

Pros

people are very hard working and help eachother all the time. Just like anyother companies, there are very few who slacks. Most of the manager and up seems like very busy and getting the stuff one. Most of the people work as a team. A lot of people willing to help you out when you are swamped with work. Upper management like to get people to meet other department, so people can make a move when the time is right.

Cons

Seems like everyone is overloaded. Needs to get the old crowd out and get some young faces in.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to come and stop by the departments and see what people are doing everyday.

Current Employee - District Manager in Pittsburgh, PA

    Pros

Great social concience in the world. Research and development on the cutting edge. Product awareness in the marketplace globally.

    Cons

The goals are unrealistic. The job is too big for one person. The salary is very average and the bonus is good if you make it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should take a hard look at some of the people making their numbers. The goals need to be looked at so the numbers dont get manipulated

    Pros

You have exposure to E2E value chain--Avon "owns" its manufacturing and its channel, so you gain an understanding of everything from product development to marketing & merchandising, to distribution and selling.

    Cons

Level of turnover over last 5+ years has left a "brain drain" in the midst of complex processes and a unique selling channel. Lots of change/rework and lack of concrete decision-making at higher levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When employees from various parts of the organization refer to working there as "it's a morgue", "it's all about to fall apart", "no one knows what they're doing"--you can either take the position that these individuals need to be "weeded out" or you can start to listen. When it goes beyond being disgruntled about compensation or benefits to having a lack of faith that management knows what it's doing, then there's a problem--you can only focus on what's going on at 10,000 feet for so long while ignoring what's going on at 1,500 feet and expect that you'll still have a firm foundation for the business to operate on.
