Good working environment but a rigid structure is being put in place...for the worst.

I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

The engineers are smart and dedicated but management quality is unequal. Without being overly generous with employees salaries are good but benefits in kind are close to non-existent and health benefits is getting worst.

Cons

The movement in the industry is rationalisation. BAE systems took the massive cost cutting and increased structural rigidity route forgetting about investment and R&D a.k.a the core of the business.
Benefits were slashed from 2010 to 2012.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Flexibility is good for business! Remember it!!

I worked at BAE Systems USA as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Training provided for employees who need it for their jobs free by BAE.

    Cons

Hard to get training provided for employees who need it for their jobs. They tell you you get free training during orientation, but when you ask for it, they say no. Why? So the PM can pocket the training budget as a end-of-year bonus. They also cut benefits across the board (changed HMO to crappier HMO, cut PTO, cut annual trip to Kings Dominion, etc). Kept the annual Xmas party at the Air and Space museum, though; wouldn't want to look less cool now, would we? Also, pay WELL below average ($35k salary for Break/Fix Tech? You can make more in a customer service call center!) Oh, and the cherry on the top: expected hourly employees to work overtime without getting paid! Illegal much? If we're that busy, HIRE MORE PEOPLE! One more thing, don't try to move within the company; the second you apply for another position within, your PM will post your job on Dice, Monster, etc, so you'll probably get fired before you get moved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lying to employees about benefits you never plan on providing them, stop providing useless benefits no one cares about, and stop denying overtime to hourly employees.
