I worked at BAE Systems USA as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

How awesome is it to work on Tanks to help our troops and country? To save lives on the battlefield. It was wonderful working with the people there. The assemblers, machinists, designers and engineers were great to work with.

    Cons

Management will keep you building the same box over and over to use up budget. Do they value their employees? They renovated a large broom closet to make it into an office for drafters. The room they were taken out of was made into a lounge area for management.
They don't really listen to new ideas unless your a manager (and they don't listen to their employees). They have not won any new big contracts in a while because they won't get out of the old government contract mentality...use up all the budget, then ask for more, and they won't look at new innovative designs. No room for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees (all of them), use their ideas, be innovative. Stop making the same old box or you will not be getting out of this rut. Hire back designers, drafters, engineers that knew what they were doing, listen to them. Moving to the middle of nowhere to hire people cheaply so your upper management can get bigger bonuses was a HUGE waste of time and money. Now your moving back to the area, and trying to pay people even less than what you were paying them here before you left, and even that was not the going rate for the area (not the industry, but the area). You want top notch people, you need to pay for them. You want to succeed and thrive? Hire those top notch people and listen to them and their ideas. It is a new battlefield, a new world. Stop trying to make what worked 30 years ago!
