  1. Fabulous for 10 years, then steadily downhill as programme making became increasingly undervalued.

I worked at BBC part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Surrounded by motivated, gifted and committed colleagues who achieve great things in spite of a complacent, incompetent, short sighted management who are too busy playing politics and watching their own backs to provide effective and inspirational leadership.

    Cons

No matter your years of experience, if you become a mother you are committing career suicide at the BBC. In News anyhow if you request part time working you are immediately labelled an expensive irrelevence.

    Advice to Management

Stop this disastrous policy of getting rid of the most experienced people for the short term gain of saving on the salary bill. In some parts of the BBC new recruits have no-one left to learn from. Support you programme makers, encourage them to innovate and congratulate them even if they fail trying.

  2. Low pay and little progression

I have been working at BBC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Well known brand, makes you feel important, looks good from outside. The buildings are nice and stylish to work within. You can work on great programmes/productions.

    Cons

Low pay, VERY hard to progress, long hours and pressurised. Short contracts and uncertainty about your job. No permanent roles therefore you cant plan a stable future financially. 8/10 they know who they want for a job role but will still go through interview processes. So do some research into the area or position your applying for. It got to the point where I would ask beforehand if they 'already had someone in mind'. Get lots and lots of experience and connections behind you.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing.
