Great company, terrible managment

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at BCBG

Pros

Store Discount, $100 store gift certificate for making monthly goals (taxed on paycheck), opportunity to earn commission, decent health insurance for full time employees, 401k

Cons

Management with no idea of how to run a sore properly, store manager refused to get her hands dirty with necessary tasks, managers would only want to assist those clients who were spending lots of money

I have been working at BCBG full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Retail environment is a great training ground to learn core fashion values for those who want to become stylists or career retail managers. There is some career advancement opportunities, if you live and work in Los Angeles, to transition into the corporate setting.

    Cons

For stylist and sales associates this selling environment is pay verse commission so be sure to negotiate high commission rate (up to 5% is max.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be helpful to have operational improvements around distribution of marketing materials - this team has poor time management in their timeline. Marketing materials are always received too late or after the event or promotion has happened

Former Employee - Fabric R/D in Los Angeles, CA

I worked at BCBG full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

gaining extensive knowledge of fabrics, techinal fabric development and sourcing. exposure to textile trends and fabric shows. Gain professional demeanor and are introduced to many overseas and local fabric vendors.

    Cons

terrible pay. extremely long hours. If you work normal business hours - 9-6 - then you're not working hard enough. upper management is difficult to work with. you are used as more of a 'paper pusher' instead of fabric researcher. slow promotion rate, extremely high turnover. the VP does not appreciate those employees who have stuck it out for more than a year (which is sadly a long time in BCBG standards), refuses to promote and instead hires management from NY/east coast fashion industry who end up regretting the position and leave after less than a year.

they place a hold on pay raises across the company but Max Azria rides in a stretch hummer/expedition limousine everyday. some is wrong here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay better, treat your employees more fairly, bring people up.
