I worked at BCD Travel full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Many different accounts so there is opportunity for mobility within the accounts. This does take place quite often.

Cons

Very poor self serving and unknowledgeable managers. The managers spend most of their time self promoting and filling in various surveys instead of tackling the the essence of their jobs. The training and explanations of procedure are poor and unenlightening, they always refer you to their on line webpages to answer any questions. Is this because the management is so uninformed they can't answer questions directly. Me thinks so. As for travel perks they are only for the favored few, too bad because that is how the front line agents gain their knowledge. Agents are treated like an easily replaceable element. Too bad a sorry state for such hard working souls.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some people who really do have knowledge and people skills and turn this thing around before it is too late. Stop wasting time on your self promoting projects and attend to the real business at hand. Allow agents to go on interesting fam trips so that they can expand their knowledge and actually enjoy themselves.

    Pros

BCD Travel is dynamic. The opportunities are manifold if you look for them. The company is aggressive in the business travel market place.

    Cons

The business travel industry is not the highest paying industry. This isn't a BCD problem, it's an industry problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the travel perks that come with the industry are well promoted within the company. Use supplier leverage to get travel perks into the employees' hands.

I have been working at BCD Travel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They appear to care about work life balance and allow a lot of virtual work in most departments. Health care is pretty good considering other items about the company. A lot of good people -

    Cons

Low salaries, terrible 401K and pretty weak vacation. I sometimes wonder about the ethics of this company - they really drink their own kool-aid when it comes to believing how wonderful they are. Considering the salary structure you would think the workload would not be as high as it is. Expectations are very, very high - almost unrealistic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and invest in technology a bit more. Stop convincing yourselves that middle management, in most cases and Sr. Mgmt in some cases really get how to work with employee's. Just become someone is great at something doesn't mean they are a leader and should lead people!
