Pros

Good benefits, great coworkers. Many different programs designed to provided much needed services to children, youth, and families

Cons

Disorganized management that plays favorites, asks employees to frequently give more time and effort, neglecting their own home lives and families, and offers no thanks or compensation. While the agency is dedicated to doing all it can for its clients, that same attitude is not extended to the employees. A lot is done to put on a good face when administrators and funders come around, while the day to day is disorganized, inefficient, and led by managers who don't know how to work together.

I worked at BCFS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is very growth oriented and is opening new offices, programs, and positions all the time. They are very flexible and family oriented so it is easy to flex your time out for sick children, doctor's appointments, or other necessary errands. Their pay is competitive for the non-profit sector.

    Cons

It can be difficult to argue a raise in some departments. They bring you in at a fairly decent starting salary, but don't always offer annual raises. Even when they do, it is not much. The job tends to favor certain programs/departments over others, and those are the ones with higher salaries and newer equipment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider paying equal attention to all program areas. I strongly believe that is why turnover can be so high at times. Annual raises/bonuses are coveted by staff....they have the money, so don't be cheap!

    Pros

some supervisors are flexible and understanding
    pay is average

    Cons

Power driven administrators, no staff evaluation to offer feedback or professional growth. No raises, unfair pay schedule. Egotistic leaders are almost worshiped and you disagree you better keep it to yourself or you will be leaving soon. There is a culture of fear and intimidation. People won't show it and all pretend because we all had to bring the bacon home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real, get your hands dirty with the rest of the people in the field. Get off your high horse. Pay decent salaries. Cut Kevin's salary in at lest 40% he is overpaid. Dissolve layers of administration, there is no need for so many layers is a constant flow of funds that could be better invested. When possitions become available dont appoint people, allow other to compete and have a diverse body of people interviewing. People are hand picked for the wrong reasons!
