I worked at BG Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Access to senior management is fairly easy, varied work assignments and opportunity to travel / relocate.

Experience is what you make of it (as it is at all places) but at BG if you work hard, put yourself out there things will happen and you can work on some really big projects with a lot of responsibility. It can be a frustrating place to work sometimes as there is a dichotomous culture of getting things done and being entrepreneurial but at the same time there is a lot of process and procedure that you have to follow but hasn't quite been thought through and often feels like it is there because it needs to be there due to the size rather than adding value.

Management is very mixed, some great people and some not so great. I can definitely see myself moving back if the opportunity arose, just when there is more stability and clarity of vision.

Comp & Bens were world class, now... not so sure....

    Cons

    Training is up to you.

Formal progression is there but you have to force it.... A LOT. Often you are performing a role that is 1 or 2 levels above where you are but with no formal recognition of your efforts and it becomes just a normal expectation that you have to work like a manager/senior manager in a junior role. This is good for the short term and from an experience point of view as you can learn a lot but after 18 months - 2 years of "outperforming" it becomes tiresome when you see no progression (there is recognition of "good job but that soon becomes demoralising").

Lots of people have left recently and BG was all about the people.

Leadership really needs to figure out what it wants to do and stick to that vision.

There are not many roles / chances for progression after a while (especially to more senior levels) and often people are brought in from outside vs. progression/promotion. That was why I left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership needs to have a vision and stick to it. Things need to be thought through more.

Staff recognition and promotion opportunities need to be improved.

I have been working at BG Group as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the people are the best you'll ever meet. There's free soft drinks and coffee. Downtown location

    Cons

Open concept... you have to be a VP to get an office with a door. They stopped paying for parking for contractors and then fired all the contractors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Are there any of you left? CEO got fired (new one hasn't started yet).... 3 executives went off to run other companies, two recent ones jumped ship.. you can't get any of the brass from UK to come to Houston... all the projects are on hold or slowing down. I guess my advice is to get out while you can!
