Pros

Great pay and benefits for undergraduates/graduate students--well beyond what other majors offer. Very lean groups meaning you'll have lots of interaction with senior management and other personnel. Newly renovated office building is nice to work in Very bright and talented employees--pound per pound they can hang with the majors.

Cons

Traffic can be horrible in Houston (offices located in Galleria area) Difficult to get recruited and convert job offers Stratified and difficult to move from one functional group to another.

Advice to Management

Great leadership within the Petroleum department--management are technically sound and listen to employees. Management is composed of VPs and other seniors from the major oil companies.

    Pros

Great Company in terms of financial stability, benefits, and work life balance. The 401K match is probably the best out there.

    Cons

You have to network and be in a visible position by upper management in order to get promoted. Promotions are handed out to people that network really well and not neccessarily abilities to do the job.

    Advice to Management

Promote people who can do the job not just who you like.

Which is more important to you right now- money or happiness, BHP is the money not the happiness.

    Pros

The best reasons for working at BHP is the pay and benefits. They will pay you well and give very good annual bonuses, good salary, stock purchase plan, and you are vested from day one.

    Cons

The downside is they do not like to give up people to other group for advancement they would rather fill the job with an external candidate so that make very challenging to advance.

    Advice to Management

Allow people to advance through the organization and that way you will retain your best talent.
