Current Employee – been working at BJC HealthCare
Pros – Outwardly, BJC is a great company with charitable intentions and solid contributions to the community. Healthcare delivered is top notch with high patient satisfaction scores. Good work-life balance which makes up for the bottom-shelf salaries.
Cons – BJC is more worried about growth and capturing the market and making money, despite being a not-for-profit organization. It's all about the bottom line, Cheap but incompetent employees rule the roost and if you are a poor employee, they don't get rid of you they "manage you out" often to another service line who then has to deal with your poor performance. Employees who question strategy or challenge the status quo are penalized.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees. Raise your salaries. If you want to hire employees with top quartile skill sets you need to pay top quartile salaries. Look at senior leadership - in a business like yours, certain positions need new blood. It's unusual for top management in a healthcare nonprofit to have hung around as long as some of you have.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
