I have been working at BMW

Pros

Good pay. Good benefits. Attendance issues are the only real way to get fired. They do a good job of catering the basic needs.

Cons

They can call a mandatory 1 hour of overtime everyday, and mandatory production days whenever they feel like it. If you're schedule isn't very flexible, there will not be much wiggle room. The shift hours are long, making going to school while working there almost impossible. Depending on which staffing agency you come in under, your chances of being hired on to BMW Staff are greatly affected. Those coming in on the logistics side, Tier One Solutions, have no opportunity to be hired on full-time. The various staffing agencies that partner with BMW also will not compete with one another for employees. That means, if you want to make a lateral move from one agency to another, you must first resign from your current position before the other agency will even acknowledge you for hire. For most people who aren't lucky enough to come in under the MAU title (best chance of getting hired on directly) there are only two options: Quit, or get fired.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management is alright...but they will not step up to bat for their hourly employes. Everyone generally agrees that how BMW recruits and hires full-time staff is very biased, nepotistic and even a bit racist. But nobody is willing to take a stand.

I have been working at BMW

    Pros

Work Life balance, International colleagues, Fun product, reasonable Employee Car Lease program (includes Insurance coverage)

    Cons

Low pay for branches outside Hilliard, Ohio headquarters. Geo pay is given to employees, but not enough to compensate for standard of living in Metro NY area. Opportunities for upward mobility mostly available in Ohio location - so relocation is a must.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase base pay to allow NJ colleagues to purchase residences as easily as Ohio colleagues.

    I worked at BMW

    Pros

Smart, dedicated, passionate, nice and fun employees. Work is interesting and challenging. Nice facilities, location and offices. Beautiful campus. BMW products are outstanding! Great perks including a company car and option to lease an additional BMW!

    Cons

Difficult to maintain a good work-life balance with family and personal interests. Workload is often excessive, all consuming. Most "emergencies" are a result of poor senior management. For most employees office cubes are small and offer little privacy to get work done efficiently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Address the workload crisis. The company was already very lean before US headcount was reduced so the existing employees were required to take up the "slack." But there was little slack. To most employees, senior management seems unconcerned. The situation is beginning to take its toll on a deteriorating relationship with dealers and potentially will adversely impact the brand.
