I worked at BNSF Railway as a contractor (more than 5 years)

Pros

I worked on BNSF's main campus, which is a great environment to work in. People are generally friendly, and I had what I needed to do my work.

Cons

One challenge is the clear divide of how employees treat consultants (generally looked down on). Some employees are downright rude to contractors. The company is heavily segmented and departments don't always get along well.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Model the way more. Sometimes you push employees too hard, and good talent is leaving the company because work-life is difficult to balance.

Be ready for a fight if you are a female trainmaster

I have been working at BNSF Railway full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great pay, great benefits, good schedule

    Cons

If you are a female be ready to fight. You will watch the men that started at the same time as you not have to do the extra things that will be required of you. Extra shifts, train trips, lectures, weekly reports, ect. If you dont go drink with the rest of management because of your believes you will be labeled an outsider and told you are not a team player. Trust nobody.....absolutely nobody.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a closer eye on your terminal sups. Do a annonymous evaluation where the females feel free to speak up without fear of reprisal. Discrimination is far more wide spread than upper management is being told.
