Former Employee - Manager  in  New York, NY
Former Employee - Manager in New York, NY

I worked at BNY Mellon full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Good vacation time, decent benefits, some good people are still with the firm.

Cons

Terrible management across the board. Mangers spend all their time working on and cutting the budget. No people skills whatsoever. Be prepared to be treated with indifference until things go wrong. If you are a prospective employee do your homework on the department you are interviewing with before accepting an offer.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Send the managers to mangement training. Get feedback from employees about how to improve morale. Invest the time coach and mentor employees. Increase pay, it's too easy to get an increase by changing jobs.

Current Employee - Senior Associate in Brooklyn, NY

I have been working at BNY Mellon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits, time off, hours are fine, salary (just make sure to negotiate a good one when hired).

    Cons

Very little development, no coaching, which translates to very little upward mobility. Raises suck. And those that do move up are often ill equipped to manage teams or projects because of very little development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take initiative to change the status quo, break down silos, and learn what it truly means to lead.

Current Employee - Applications Manager in Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at BNY Mellon full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, flexible work arrangements and career opportunities are there for those who network. Immediate management is doing the best with what they have.

    Cons

Low pay, frozen pay and little to no recognition for above average contribution
Cuts were too deep across too many areas, many functions have yet to recover. It's nearly impossible to count on routine requests being routine.
Instead of hiring desperately needed employees the response has been to obtain, train and release contractors in a never ending cycle, bleeding institutional knowledge..
Management by metrics isn't taking into account the very important factors of culture and other intangibles. Too much 'ivory tower', senior management projects the image they are above understanding the interconnections of data and systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop spending money on new cubicles and invest in the workforce.
