I have been working at BP full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Great people
    - It is a very collaborative work environment, people really try to work together
    - Safety is an important aspect of the company's culture, they really care about their people and their impact on the communities they work in
    - They are really good about allowing for a worklife balance, maintaining a 9/80 work schedule in Upstream, and giving flexibilty to people with children, just need to make sure you get your work done.

    Cons

    - Tough place to implement new programs and changes, due to the size of the company
    - You need to be patient when trying to implement change, and be willing to socialize that change with a lot of different people (it can be quite complex and challenging)
    - BP can be quite complex and bureacratic when dealing with higher level issues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it as simple and steamlined as possible. Don't over focus on short term market issues.

I worked at BP full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A diverse, multi-cultural, global company with many smart, motivated people. Group leadership seems quite sincere in its efforts to shift the culture and refocus of the company.

    Cons

Internal bureaucracies and procedures can be needlessly complex and overly engineered. Internal communications are typical of many large corporations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop incentives for senior level leaders to mentor mid-level managers beyond performance reviews. Take a closer look at HR support for new hires and efforts to retain talent; there appear to be gaps.
